SMARTIES ARE SUSTAINABLE

Challenge

Smarties use 100% renewable, sustainable materials in their chocolate, but not many Canadians are aware of this. Smarties want to be recognized as a product that truly cares about the planet and sustainable production.

Solution

We'll use the finite number of smarties in a box to help people understand the effect we are having on our Earth and depleting resources. We'll also create an online platform for education and environmental action. Together we can make a difference in the world.

On the back of the box we'll have a legend to help people navigate the symbols printed on the Smarties. This legend will also direct people to beSMARTies.com where visitors can learn all about the history of climate change.

We will create a new, limited-edition Smarties box. The box will feature a disproportionate number of red and brown Smarties, representing emissions and global population. Other colours of Smarties, like blue and pink, will be fewer in number as they represent scarcer resources such as the ice caps and fresh water.

The landing page of beSMARTies.com, where new users will be informed of our mission. Working in symphony with each other, the Smarties box will drive to a microsite where we'll display the effects unsustainable means of production on the environment using, the Smarties box art over the years. Since Smarties have been around for over 80 years, we'll show box art from each of the last eight decades. Once the visitor selects the box of smarties, the contents will be poured out and they'll be able to see a cross-section of the environment during a particular decade.

The slider page on desktop, where users can see the change in the composition of our environment over the last 80 years. As you scroll through the years, the pack art will change to reflect the era, as well as the number of Smarties related to that environmental issue.
